Over several days, experienced riders travel through remote landscapes, from Botswana’s water-filled Okavango Delta to Patagonia’s dramatic, mountainous Andes and India’s vibrant rural villages. You spend 4 to 6 hours a day in the saddle, crossing vast terrain, encountering wildlife, and reaching places few ever experience.

Who is a horseback safari best suited for?

Horseback safaris are designed for confident riders, typically intermediate to advanced, with solid, independent riding skills.

You should be confident at trot, canter, and gallop, and able to maintain a balanced two-point position, including cantering over long distances across open terrain.

Riders need to be comfortable spending 4 to 6 hours a day in the saddle, fit enough for multi-day physical activity, and able to mount and dismount independently.

Beginners: the operators I work with require at least an intermediate level of riding.

Yes, when booked with vetted operators. Every safari we recommend:

• Uses well-trained, fit horses matched to rider skill

• Employs experienced guides who know the terrain

• Maintains strict safety protocols (helmets, first aid, satellite communication)

• Has proven track records (minimum one full season)

• Group size not bigger than 8

Typical safaris range from 5-10 days, with 4-6 hours in the saddle daily. Shorter weekend rides (2-3 days) are available in Europe and some South American locations.

Most horseback safaris include:

Prices vary by destination, season, and duration. As a general guide:

Africa tends to be the highest investment — Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania typically range from €5,300 to €14,000 for 7–11 days. South America offers more range, from €1,600 for a short Argentina estancia stay up to €6,600 for a full Patagonia expedition. Asia sits between €1,800 and €8,300 depending on whether you're riding the Kyrgyz mountains or the Pakistani highlands. European riding breaks are the most accessible, generally €1,600 to €3,700 for 3–7 nights.

All prices include luxury accommodation, meals, expert guides, and park permits where applicable. International flights and riding gear are not included.
