Dress like the main character in your own life

Why Style Matters

Because if you can choose,
why not be bold?

Anyone who tells you the clothing required for horseback safari should focus solely on utility hasn't encountered Riding Muse. We are more than just a platform that artfully curates bold, stylish riding gear. We also have a philosophy. We believe that dressing well on horseback is about riding in the saddle of your own life. It’s a reclamation of identity. It’s about dressing the way you want to feel. It’s the gateway to becoming the main character in our own life.

Styling Tips for Horseback Safari

The biggest misconception about packing for an adventurous safari is that you must sacrifice style for utility.

A riding safari isn’t just another outdoor adventure — it’s a journey through untamed landscapes, rich cultures, and cinematic beauty. So why show up in the same performance gear you’d wear for hiking or a day at riding school?

At Riding Muse, we know you can ride in style and comfort — because we’ve done it, many times over. And we’re here to tell you: the better you look, the better you ride. You are the main character of this adventure, so why not dress the part?

This is your moment to leave the zip-up fleeces and technical sportswear at home. A riding safari is more than a physical expedition — it’s a visual and emotional one, too. Let your wardrobe reflect that. Think timeless silhouettes, natural textures, and pieces that echo the spirit of the place.

Look beyond equestrian brands. Some of the most striking safari looks come from brands that understand cut, fabric, and detail — even if they’ve never set foot in a saddle. These pieces weren’t made for riding, but they thrive in the saddle when chosen with intention. And the best part? You can wear them again once you’re back home. Choosing pieces that translate into everyday life means you waste less on clothes you’ll only wear once or twice a year.

Draw inspiration from the destinations themselves. In Argentina, the traditional boina — a beret-style riding hat — is both functional and effortlessly chic, as well as the bombachas — loose-fitting trousers worn by gauchos that are ideal for horseback riding. Across South America, vibrant ponchos are worn on horseback; in Morocco, Berber scarves bring both sun protection and a vivid sense of place.

Why not be bold and traditional at once?

Opt for earthy tones that harmonize with the landscape — deep olives, warm browns, soft sands. Leave the bright, sporty colors at home, where they won’t compete with the quiet beauty of your surroundings.

Choose natural fabrics over synthetic tech wear (which, let’s be honest, is often just plastic). Opt for breathable layers, earthy tones, and tailoring that allows movement and mirrors the landscape.

Pack with purpose. Versatile layers will help you adapt to shifting temperatures throughout the day, from crisp mornings to sun-soaked afternoons and cool desert nights.

When you're in the saddle all day, exposed to the elements, the right clothing can mean the difference between discomfort and ease — between simply enduring the journey and fully experiencing it

Accessories matter more than you think. A well-chosen scarf or buff isn’t just a finishing touch — it’s your defense against sun, wind, and dust. Add a pair of durable, stylish sunglasses and a hat that offers both character and coverage, and you’re ready for whatever the terrain brings.

At Riding Muse, we curate style that blends elegance with edge, comfort with character. You’re not just going somewhere — you’re becoming someone. Dress like it.

What I would pack for warm weather safari

3-4 shirts - Have fun with your choices. Pick styles that make a statement without overpowering the natural surroundings — avoid bright colors in favor of light or earth tones that blend in. Natural fabrics like cotton or linen are breathable and ideal for heat and sweat. Long sleeves offer extra protection from sun and insects.

2 gilet or vest - These add style and structure to your look while functioning as practical sleeveless layers. Ideal for early morning or late afternoon rides when the temperature dips and the sun isn’t as strong.

1 long sleeve jacket -Essential for cool mornings and evenings. Choose something easy to layer and remove while riding, depending on the time of year.

1 fleece or sweater - Perfect for off-saddle evenings during the summer and a must-have for riding during winter. Prioritize warmth without bulk.

1 buff -Indispensable in sandy or dusty environments. Offers protection for the face and neck from sun, cold, and wind.

2 neck scarves - A stylish alternative to the buff, these add a finishing touch to your outfit while offering light protection from the elements.

2-3 pairs of breeches -I personally love the jodhpur cut — it feels more elegant and timeless. When possible, I like to follow the local tradition and adapt my riding look accordingly.

1 riding helmet - Recommended for safety, though not mandatory in every location. Choose one that fits well and offers proper ventilation, especially in warmer climates.

1 firm broad brim hat -Perfect for a more glamorous look that still protects from sun and wind. I love the Australian brand Akubra — it’s incredibly comfortable, stylish, and sturdy enough that the brim won’t twist in the wind.

1 pair of sunglasses - A riding safari essential. They shield your eyes from the elements and elevate any outfit. I always bring two pairs for styling flexibility — preferably high quality, with protective cases to avoid scratches.

1-2 belts - A practical accessory that also pulls an outfit together. A good belt adds structure and polish to your look, whether you’re riding or relaxing.

1 pair of boots - I prefer the elegance of long boots — they offer a more refined silhouette and eliminate the need for chaps. That said, ankle boots can be the more practical choice in hot climates or on certain terrain. Choose what works best for the trip.

1 pair of riding gloves - A worthwhile investment. Opt for high-quality leather gloves — they’re more breathable, longer-lasting, and add a sophisticated finishing touch.
