What to Expect

Nomads & Dunes Adventure

Riding through southern Morocco is one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. It’s hard to describe what it feels like to move for hours through the shifting vast desert scenery—the wind in your hair, silence broken only by hoofbeats, and lots of impressions as you take in the beauty. There’s a sense of freedom in that open space that stays with you.

The journey begins in Ouarzazate, on the edge of the Sahara—a place that feels like the threshold between two worlds. From there, you ride deep into the Draa Valley, following ancient caravan paths through plains, rocky passes, glowing dunes, and a few palm-filled oases.

The horses—Barbs and Barb-Arabian stallions—are forward, responsive, and completely at home in the terrain. There are long, steady stretches to relax in a slow pace, and faster sections with steady canters and epic full gallops across open flats, unforgettable for an any adrenaline junky like me—pure energy and joy, shared with horses that clearly loved every second.

Evenings bring a different kind of magic: the hush and hews of dusk, blood-orange sunsets, simple desert guesthouses, hot showers, and generous tagines. And then, of course—the stars.

This ride felt like stepping into a fairytale of dust, sun, rhythm, and space. If you’re an experienced rider craving something raw, beautiful, and far off the beaten path, this corner of Morocco has a way of staying with you. It did for me.

Morocco styling & packing tips

Stick to khakis and earth tones – When packing for Morocco, I steer clear of the usual technical or sporty look and lean into pieces that feel stylish, comfortable, and considered. Flowy tops, neutral coloured breeches, and lightweight layers in a palette of soft neutrals and warm tones work beautifully in the desert light. Many of the items I bring aren’t traditional riding clothes at all, but well-chosen pieces that are breathable, easy to layer, and versatile enough to wear again back home such as linen or cotton buttoned shirts. I like to think out of the box—choosing outfits that feel right for the environment without compromising on aesthetics.

Blend into the landscape – Dressing for a riding adventure doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style—with a bit of planning, it’s possible to feel both put-together and completely at ease in the saddle.

Try to dress in a way that is respectful of the natural environment. Looking stylish always makes me feel the part.

I also love accessories that balance style and function, like a small holster bag or a vest with secure pockets — perfect for keeping essentials like sunscreen, lip balm, and your phone close at hand without disrupting the rhythm of the ride.
