We each took command of forward stallions, as we cantered across sand, argan forests, rocky outcrops, and remote villages. It was the ultimate exercise in focusing on the mind-body connection required to master the art of riding these incredible animals at full speed. I had to let go of my fear for my son (and for myself) trusting that our skill and confidence could rise to the occasion.

This Morocco trip is a unique blend of desert adventure and coastal escape. You’ll be riding along red earth trails and down to the shoreline, so pack with both ocean and desert in mind. Light, breathable clothing in neutral tones—think soft browns, warm sands, and creamy whites—will keep you cool and photograph beautifully against both landscapes. A bathing suit or quick-dry base layer is a smart addition: while full-on swimming in the Atlantic Ocean is rare, you’ll likely wade into the sea with your horse, and you will get wet. It’s a breathtaking moment you won’t forget.

Also, be prepared for the elements—salt and sand have a way of finding their way into everything. Leave delicate fabrics and fussy accessories at home. Opt for durable pieces that can handle a bit of grit, and bring something dry to change into afterward. A lightweight scarf, practical wrap, and a waterproof pouch for your essentials will serve you well.
